Terms of Service

Last updated October 11, 2026

Welcome to Hommie.

Hommie is a platform built to make student living easier. It helps you find places to live, discover roommates, connect with students, discover events, and take part in student communities.

By creating an account or using Hommie, you agree to these Terms of Service.

Please take a few minutes to read them.

1. What is Hommie?

Hommie is a student-focused platform that brings different parts of student living together in one place.

Depending on where you live and which features are available, Hommie may allow you to:

  • Find accommodation
  • Find potential roommates
  • Create a student profile
  • Message other users
  • Discover student events
  • Join communities
  • Buy or sell items
  • Save accommodation and other content
  • Receive personalised recommendations

Some features may change or become available over time.

2. Your account

Some Hommie features require an account.

When you create an account, you agree to provide information that is accurate and up to date.

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your login information secure
  • Keeping your profile information accurate
  • Protecting access to your account
  • Everything that happens through your account

If you believe someone has accessed your account without permission, please contact us as soon as possible.

3. Your profile

Your Hommie profile may include information such as your:

  • Name
  • Profile photo
  • University
  • Course
  • Interests
  • Location
  • Lifestyle preferences
  • Accommodation preferences
  • Budget
  • Biography

You decide what information you provide and, depending on the feature, what other users can see.

Please don't pretend to be someone else or provide intentionally false information.

4. Finding accommodation

Hommie may allow users and accommodation providers to publish properties.

We do our best to make Hommie useful and safe, but we cannot guarantee that every listing is accurate, available, legitimate, or suitable for you.

Before renting a property or sending money, you should:

  • Verify the property
  • Speak with the relevant landlord or provider
  • Visit the property where possible
  • Review the rental agreement
  • Confirm the identity of the person you're dealing with
  • Carry out your own checks

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, Hommie is not your landlord, estate agent, broker, guarantor, or party to your rental agreement.

Any rental agreement is between you and the relevant accommodation provider.

5. Roommate matching

Hommie may recommend potential roommates based on information such as:

  • Budget
  • Location
  • Lifestyle
  • Study habits
  • Sleeping preferences
  • Cleanliness
  • Smoking preferences
  • Pets
  • Interests
  • Social preferences

Our matching system is designed to help you discover people who may be compatible with you.

A match is only a recommendation.

We cannot guarantee that you will become friends with someone, live well together, or have a successful rental arrangement.

Use your own judgement before deciding to live with someone.

6. Messaging

Hommie may allow you to communicate with other users.

Please treat other people with respect.

You must not use Hommie to:

  • Harass or threaten people
  • Scam or defraud people
  • Send spam
  • Impersonate someone
  • Share someone's private information without permission
  • Send malicious files or links
  • Promote illegal activity
  • Abuse or exploit another person

If someone makes you uncomfortable, you can use Hommie's available block and report features.

7. Your content

You may be able to post photos, videos, listings, messages, reviews, comments, events, marketplace posts, and other content on Hommie.

You remain responsible for the content you post.

Please only post content that you have the right to share.

By posting content on Hommie, you give us permission to store, display, and use that content as reasonably necessary to operate and improve Hommie.

For example, we may need permission to display your profile photo to another user when you choose to make your profile visible.

We may remove content that violates these Terms or puts users or Hommie at risk.

8. Be a good Hommie

We want Hommie to be a welcoming place for students.

Don't use Hommie to:

  • Scam people
  • Harass people
  • Threaten people
  • Discriminate unlawfully
  • Create fake accounts
  • Post fraudulent accommodation
  • Steal or misuse other people's information
  • Spread malware
  • Manipulate the platform
  • Scrape Hommie
  • Spam users
  • Break the law

Basically: use Hommie the way you'd want other people to use it with you.

9. Your safety matters

Hommie helps people connect, but we cannot guarantee that every person on the platform is trustworthy.

Please use common sense when meeting people you discover through Hommie.

For example:

Meeting someone?

Meet somewhere public and let someone you trust know where you're going.

Viewing accommodation?

Verify the property and the person offering it before making payments.

Sending money?

Never send money simply because a listing or person appears on Hommie.

If something feels wrong, stop and report it.

10. Marketplace

Hommie may allow students to buy, sell, or exchange items.

Unless we specifically say otherwise, Hommie is not the seller or buyer.

We don't guarantee that an item:

  • Exists
  • Belongs to the seller
  • Is authentic
  • Is in the condition described
  • Is safe
  • Is legal

Users are responsible for their own marketplace transactions.

11. Events and communities

Hommie may allow users, universities, organisations, or other groups to create or promote events and communities.

Event organisers are responsible for their own events.

Hommie does not guarantee that an event will take place or that information provided by an organiser is accurate.

Please use your own judgement when attending events.

12. Verification

Hommie may offer verification features.

A verification badge means that we have completed the particular verification process associated with that badge.

It does not mean that we guarantee someone's:

  • Character
  • Intentions
  • Financial reliability
  • Safety
  • Behaviour

Verification is designed to provide an additional layer of confidence, not a guarantee.

13. Personalised recommendations

Hommie may personalise your experience.

You may receive recommendations for:

  • Accommodation
  • Roommates
  • Events
  • Communities
  • Marketplace items
  • Other student-related content

These recommendations may be based on information you provide and how you use Hommie.

Recommendations are suggestions, not guarantees.

14. Third-party services

Hommie may use third-party services to help us operate the app.

These may include services for:

  • Hosting
  • Authentication
  • Maps
  • Analytics
  • Payments
  • Notifications
  • Security
  • Crash reporting

Those services may have their own terms and privacy policies.

15. Hommie's intellectual property

The Hommie name, logo, design, software, interface, graphics, and other Hommie-created materials belong to Hommie or our licensors.

You may use Hommie for its intended purpose, but you may not copy, reproduce, sell, distribute, or commercially exploit Hommie's intellectual property without permission.

16. Paid features

Hommie may introduce paid features, subscriptions, or other services in the future.

If we do:

  • We'll show you the price before you purchase
  • We'll explain what you're paying for
  • We'll provide applicable subscription terms
  • Purchases made through Apple or Google may also be subject to their payment and subscription rules

You will never be charged for a paid feature without taking an action that initiates the purchase, subject to applicable platform rules.

17. We may suspend accounts

We may restrict, suspend, or remove an account if we reasonably believe that you:

  • Broke these Terms
  • Broke the law
  • Scammed or harmed another user
  • Created a security risk
  • Misused Hommie
  • Provided fraudulent information

Where appropriate, we may notify you and give you an opportunity to resolve the issue.

18. You can leave Hommie

You can stop using Hommie whenever you want.

You can also request deletion of your account through the available account-deletion feature.

Deleting your account may permanently remove your profile, listings, posts, and other account information, subject to information we are required or permitted to retain by law.

19. Important disclaimer

We build Hommie to be useful, reliable, and safe.

However, Hommie is provided on an "as available" basis.

We cannot promise that:

  • The app will always work
  • Every listing will be accurate
  • Every user will behave honestly
  • A roommate recommendation will work out
  • A property will be suitable
  • An event will happen
  • Every feature will always be available

Nothing in these Terms removes rights that you have under applicable law.

20. Our responsibility

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hommie will not be responsible for losses that result from interactions or transactions between users, including accommodation arrangements, roommate relationships, marketplace transactions, or events.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.

21. Changes to these Terms

Hommie will grow and change.

We may update these Terms when we introduce new features, change how Hommie works, or when legally necessary.

If we make an important change, we'll provide reasonable notice.

Your continued use of Hommie after the updated Terms take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

22. Privacy

Your privacy matters to us.

Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have.
